Power station planning application

InterGen has published a Further Information Document in December 2010 that addresses stakeholder feedback on the original planning application for the Gateway Energy Centre (“GEC”) power station in February 2010, called a Section 36.

As part of the consultation process, public exhibitions have taken place in February 2010, December 2010 and February 2011.

The purpose of these public exhibitions has been to provide an update on the GEC power station, electrical connection and gas connection.

Gas connection planning application

Following the public exhibitions and local consultations, InterGen submitted an application for a gas connection, consisting of a 7.7km underground gas pipeline and associated above ground installation to Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation (TTGDC) in March 2011. This was accompanied by a comprehensive Environmental Statement and the documents covering aspects of the development.

Electrical connection planning application

The electrical connection between the proposed GEC and the existing high voltage transmission lines will consist of: 1) a proposed substation, and it’s connection to the existing Rayleigh – Tilbury overhead lines, which is being consented and built by National Grid; and 2) the electrical connection between the proposed substation and GEC, which is being consented and built by InterGen.

A diagram showing the responsibilities of National Grid and InterGen is shown below:

National Grid has prepared a website which provides further information on the proposed substation and its connection to the existing Rayleigh – Tilbury overhead lines.  This is available to view at:

www.eastthurrockconnection.com

Once National Grid select the substation site, InterGen will then be able to start work on the route connection and form between this proposed substation site and the proposed GEC power station.

A high level overall GEC project timetable is shown below:
